The NeoCardioLab is a research laboratory dedicated to clinical and epidemiological neonatal cardiovascular research, as well as education in neonatal hemodynamics. The principal investigator behind the NeoCardioLab is Dr. Gabriel Altit from the Montreal Children’s Hospital at McGill University.
Visitors to the NeoCardioLab website have access to a variety of educational resources, including clips, videos, presentations, reading materials, and articles focusing on echocardiography (2D and 3D), TnECHO (targeted neonatal echocardiography), point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The website features a comprehensive "Atlas" for expected normal complete neonatal echocardiography, complete with clips of various views and detailed explanations, as well as clips showcasing selected congenital heart defects.
The training modules cover topics such as NIRS in the neonatal intensive care unit, POCUS/TnECHO techniques, TnECHO (including views, measurements, pulmonary hypertension, PDA, normative values), POCUS (with demonstrations using handheld devices and view acquisition), congenital heart defects, strain/speckle tracking, and near-infrared spectroscopy. Additionally, the NeoCardioLab now hosts the Neonatal NIRS consortium page along with recordings of their webinars.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the website for training purposes and as a supplementary resource for learning materials. The site is regularly updated with new content. Information about the McGill University Neonatal Hemodynamics Clinical Research training program is also available for those interested.
The research conducted at NeoCardioLab utilizes both conventional and advanced echocardiography techniques, including speckle-tracking echocardiography on 2D and 3D acquisitions, to enhance understanding of cardiovascular adaptation in newborns under various conditions such as prematurity, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, congenital heart defects, among others.
In addition to neonatal care, patient cohorts post-graduation from the neonatal intensive care unit are studied during neonatal follow-up, pediatric clinic visits, and into adulthood. For any inquiries or suggestions, visitors are welcome to contact NeoCardioLab via email at info@neocardiolab.com or connect through Twitter (@CardioNeo) and Instagram (@NeoCardioLab).
